Obituary of Winnifred Joudrey
passed away at 89, on Tuesday, October 27, 2015. Born in London, England, Winnie was the daughter of the late Harry and Hannah Hoare.
Winnie and her late husband, George married in London on November 23, 1946 and the "war bride" and groom made their way to the Port of Halifax in 1947. Indoctrinated to Canada in rural Bridgewater farm land, they later moved to the city and built a home in Spryfield where they raised their three sons, Michael (Margaret DeWolf), Gary (Elaine Nowe), and Lee (Tina Mombourquette). Winnie has 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a third on the way. A stranger in a strange land, Winnie connected with her community while working at the Dominion Store checkout. These connections included many Warbrides. Durable bonds grew over decades within the War Brides of Nova Scotia. Winnie’s sense of humour was amazing. She could laugh at herself, even in troubled times. Her faith was strong and always delivered her. She was an inspiration, a guiding hand, and a most forgiving soul. She loved her Camp in Chezzetcook, and entertained family and friends over many years. Winnie was rooted in tradition yet loved to try new recipes. Her favourites are family tradition now at every special occasion. She was predeceased by brother, Harry, and sisters, Mabel, Rose, Ivy, and Olive. Her sister Doris remains.
Special thanks go to the staff of Ivy Meadows for their loving care and compassion.
The Joudrey family would like all of her family and friends to join us and celebrate her life at the Spryfield Christian Community Church, 91 Thornhill Drive, Spryfield, on Monday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m., Pastor Dennis Nickerson officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ivy Meadows Home, Rosecrest Communities.
