Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Jennings
Jennings (O’Neill), Joan Elizabeth: 69, Halifax, NS, formerly of Saint John, NB, loving wife of the late Donald Jennings, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2016 following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born February 15, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Miriam "Mim" (Johnson) O’Neill. Throughout her life, Joanie was a "girl Friday" to many employers, having worked at insurance companies and several retail stores. She met the love of her life, Donnie, at age 13, later marrying in 1969 and started a family. She was the epitome of a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Above everything, her family was the most important aspect of her life and Joanie will be remembered for always doing for others and always putting everyone ahead of herself. Her beautiful smile will never be forgotten by her son, Ryan (Brooke), Albuquerque, NM, her daughter, Erin (David), Halifax, NS, her only grandson, Connor, Albuquerque, NM, sisters, Carol Johnson (Boyd), Miramichi, NB, and Kathy Stewart, Saint John, NB, brother Terry O’Neill, Saint John, NB, nephews, Liam, Sean, Robbie and Jamie, nieces, Kate, Robyn and Taryn, David and Janice Jennings and their family, who were very special to Joanie, along with numerous cousins, friends, and former coworkers. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 35 years, Don, her father, Fred, and her mother and best friend, Mim, and her ever faithful companion and fur baby, Maggie. A special thank you to all moms’ precious caregivers for all the love and compassion shown to mom over the years in their care.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS. A memorial service in celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2PM from the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place on her wedding anniversary, May 24, 2016 in GreenwoodCemetery, Saint John, NB. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Alzheimer’s Society.
