Obituary of Ronald "Ronnie" Meyers
79, Halifax, passed away peacefully in the Abby Lane on Friday, May 27, 2016. Born in Windsor, Ontario on Jan 9, 1937, he was the son of the late Gerald Meyers and Emma Jean Smith. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Madeline, seven children, Joanne, Ronald (Janine), Darrell (Lynn), Sandy (Ted), Christine (Phil), Shawn (Shelly), and Derek, 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, his siblings, Geraldine, Michigan, Sandra, Chatham Ont., Michael, Halifax, and George, Ontario. He was predeceased by his sister, Beverly.
Ronnie was employed with the city of Halifax for 30 years and spent 5 years in the Navy. He was an avid fastball pitcher on the Halifax Commons with a number of teams. Holding the record for the most games won in a single season with the Halifax Schooners, he was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame. He enjoyed camping every summer watching baseball, especially watching his favorite team, The Detroit Tigers, as well as spending time with his family.
In accordance to his wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (902.477.5601), and he will be buried at sea. The family would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses on 8.4 and 9 Lane for the exceptional care he received.
