Obituary of Albert Joseph Martell

Age 82, Halifax, passed away suddenly on June 10, 2016 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Poulamon, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late James and Jane (MacPhee) Martell. He came to Halifax at age 16. His first job was at the Lord Nelson Hotel briefly, then he worked 22 years at the Nova Scotian Hotel. He worked at Oland Brewery until his retirement. He was a hard worker and he loved his family dearly. His passion was country and western music, which he loved to share with everyone, especially the seniors. He was a member of the Spryfield Legion where he DJ’d for the seniors dances for many years. He could remember everyone’s favorite song. He was also a member of the Young at Heart Seniors Club. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce (Brown); his daughters Bonnie (Wayne) and Christine (Mike); his granddaughters, Kelly, Jessica, Melanie (Abdallah) and Shannon (Donnie); great grandchildren, Jasmine, Ashton, Lailah and Sami; brother Harold and sister Margaret Goyetche. He was predeceased by brothers; Donald, Henry, Alfred and sister Mildred. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. No visitation were his wishes. Funeral service will be held Wednesday June 15 at 11 a.m. from St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church St. Michaels’ Ave, where he attended services for 57 years. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
