Obituary of William J. "Bill" Foley
It is with heavy hearts that the family of William James Foley, 79, of Halifax announce his passing on Monday, June 13, 2016. Born in Herring Cove on February 11, 1937, Bill was the son of Wilfred "Ace" and Dorothy Foley.
Bill was a sports man, just like his father, with a special place in his heart for hockey, wrestling, boxing, sailing, baseball, hunting, and fishing. He especially enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren; whether it was on the ice, stage, court or on the field. He was a devoted Mooseheads fan and enjoyed every game. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and proudly served as a Herald employee for over 40 years. Bill was a family man, who could always be found helping others, expecting nothing in return.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 55 years, Donna Joan (Trethewey) Foley, his children, Natalie (Brian) Klaus, Herring Cove; Heather Foley (Jim) Melvin, Halifax; and Derek (Cindy) Foley, Hubley; his five grandchildren Jacqueline, Jennifer, Justin, Brandon and Ryan; his brothers, Paul (Mary) and Peter (Mary) Foley; niece and several nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Dossy Dempsey, Gertrude Foley, Rosemary Foley, and brother, Father David.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, NS (902.477.5601), where visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 5-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Owen Connolly on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 10 AM from St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 14 Saint Michael’s Avenue, Spryfield, NS, followed by a reception in the church hall.
