Born December 25, 1944 in Collingwood, Ontario. David passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday November 6, 2016, at the age of 71. He leaves his wife, Linda (Stuckless), who he shared his life with for 42 years. David was the father to two children, John (Robyn) and Catherine. He also survived by his siblings Gary (Sharon) and Carol (Klaus) Wernsdorf. David was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Ivy (McQuay) Courtney. David joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1969, and was posted to Halifax, Nova Scotia.  He served for 20 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class. After his military retirement he worked at the HMC Dockyard, Fleet Maintenance Facility, initially in the Diesel shop and finally as a gearing inspector in Mechanical Engineering. In retirement David clocked many kilometers with his faithful dog pal, Shelby. He always had a project on the go, or could be seen helping family, friends and neighbors. Thank you to the outstanding care at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, especially Dr. David MacDonald and the hematology department.  We would also like to thank the staff on 6A and Palliative Care in the Centennial Building for all their care, kindness and compassion. Funeral service will be held at Bethany United Church on November 10, 2016 at 11am, tea and visitation to follow service.  In Lieu of flowers, a donation if you wish, may be made to the QEII foundation or any charity of your choice.
