Obituary of Francis Patrick "Frank" Brooks

Age 91, Halifax, passed away suddenly on Tuesday March 7, 2017. He was a son of the late Frank and Alvina (Landry) Brooks. Frank received his early education in Halifax and subsequently studied at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, U.S.A. to become a Roman Catholic Priest. Upon his return home, he made the decision that the priesthood was not for him. His next endeavor took him to The Provincial Normal College in Truro. Upon his graduation, he was presented with the highest student award, the Governor General Medal. For over thirty years Frank taught at several schools in Halifax. The majority of his teaching career was spent at the Sir Frederick Fraser School (school for the blind) in Halifax. Upon his retirement in 1980, at the age of 55, he took an extensive trip to Europe. Frank enjoyed working in his garden, he had a green thumb and everything he planted flourished and grew. He was an avid bingo player, Frank was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church where he taught Sunday school and was a lector. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his niece and God daughter Della Rose Greeno; great nephew and God son Michael Greeno and several other nieces. He was predeceased by brothers, William, Gordon and sister Josephine. He will be missed by his family and friends. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd, where visitation will be held Friday March 10 from 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday March 11 at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church 14 St. Michael’s Ave., Spryfield, Father Alfred Eshun as celebrant. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Lower Sackville.
