Obituary of Gordon G. McDonald

Age 91, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 24, 2017 in Arborstone Enhanced Care. Born in Jollimore, he was a son of the late Ralph and Margaret (Doyle) MacDonald. Gordon lived on Long Pond in Herring Cove for over 50 years. He was employed with Chappell's as an auto mechanic and with DND Fire Control Shop for 25 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Driving by his home on Herring Cove Road you could often see the unique lawn ornaments that he had made. Gordon and his late wife, Mary Ellen shared an interest in oil painting and spent many years painting together with each developing their own style. He is survived by daughter, Patricia (Andrew), Bedford; son, William, Halifax; sister, Mildred (Roy); several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ellen; brothers, Vincent and Gerald; sisters, Rita and Irene. The family would like to thank the 3rd floor staff at Arborstone Enhanced Care for their care and kindness. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where a Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, May 1 at 10AM, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Easter Seals, NS Abilities Foundation, Hope for Wildlife or to a charity of one’s choice.
