Obituary of Grace L. Morash
Age 94 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2017, surrounded by her family. Born in Brass Hill, she was the eldest daughter of the late Arthur and Louisa (Nickerson) Stocker.
Grace graduated from Kings County Academy in Kentville. She worked at HMC Dockyard in Halifax during WWII, before enlisting in the RCAF Women’s Division, where she served on several Canadian Bases. She married and raised three daughters in Nova Scotia, settling in Halifax in 1960. She enjoyed employment at Mills Brothers for twenty years, mainly as coat buyer. Upon retirement, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels for eight years.
Grace enjoyed an active retirement. She will be remembered by other walkers for her brisk pace and ready smile as she circled Point Pleasant Park. She read widely, enjoyed classical music and attending plays and the opera. Grace was happiest when surrounded by any member of her family. She loved to cook, and friends and family will remember enjoying the wonderful delights that came from her kitchen.
Grace celebrated her 94th birthday with all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She characterized it as one of the best days of her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Hurshman, Tantallon, Pamela (Duncan) Crowdis, Lunenburg and Susan Morash, Halifax; grandchildren, Scott, Jennifer and Heather; great grandchildren, Amelia, Panos, Costa, Allison, Michael and Tyler; brother, Donald Stocker, Port La Tour. She was predeceased by son in law, Glenn Hurshman; grandson, James Crowdis; sister, Marie Stirling.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Grace’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to a charity of one’s choice.
