Obituary of Virginia M. Devereaux

DEVEREAUX, (Marriott) Virginia "Virgie" Mary – 80, Halifax, passed away peacefully at Parkstone Enhanced Care, on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Kline Heights, she was a daughter of the late James and Margaret (Reid) Marriott. Virgie was a faithful parishioner of St. John the Baptist Parish, until she was no longer able to attend. In her younger years, she was employed with Moirs Chocolate Factory, Cousins Dry Cleaners and did in-home housekeeping. She enjoyed bowling in her earlier years and was an avid bingo player as she enjoyed picking up her friends; arriving early enough to save seats for others. Her favorite TV shows were Dr. Phil and wrestling. She especially enjoyed making her homemade beets and pea soup which she was very proud of. Virgie enjoyed her many memorable trips to Bridgewater, Boston and Newfoundland to visit family and friends. She was a kind hearted and genuine person who would do anything for anyone; always letting those important to her know that she loved them. She will be missed by her adored pets, Snoopy and Nemo. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Hughie and their daughter Colleen in infancy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her devoted and loving daughter, Fay (Vernon) Comeau; caring grandchildren, Travis and Alissa; brothers, Ronnie (late Margaret) and Paul (Joann); sisters, Marion (Stan) Gaw and Beverly (Bobby) Hann; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by sister, Joan; brother Walter; and twin brothers Kenneth and Clyde and sister Phyllis in infancy. The family would like to thank the staff of Parkstone Enhanced Care, Mount Lane 3rd Floor and a very special thank you to Rosa Thomas of Bayshore Home Health for her homecare and support over the last number of years. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Sunday, June 11 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 12 at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Parish, Fr. Gordon MacLean as Celebrant; with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc. (donate.lbda.org) or Heart & Stroke Foundation (hsf.donorportal.ca). Flowers are welcomed.
