Obituary of Christine "Isabelle" Ainslie
Ainslie, Christine "Isabelle": 88, Halifax, NS, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Maplestone Enhanced Care. Born January 12, 1929 in Tatamagouche, NS, she was the only daughter of the late John and Christine (Baillie) Ferguson. The homestead where Isabelle grew up is now the site of the Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation Camp. She was a proud graduate of Mount Allison University, having graduated in 1951 as a Home Economics Teacher. She educated many children in Home Economics, having taught at Bridgetown High School in its inaugural year. Being a Home Economics teacher, many have enjoyed her hospitality, including many wonderful meals and the "infamous cousin parties". In 1954 she married the love of her life, Ross and together they raised a loving family. Isabelle was a strong, and in all ways, both at home and professionally, supportive partner to Ross, tirelessly helping him to establish and proudly enhance his veterinary practices. Isabelle was truly the epitome of a lady. As an active volunteer, she spent many volunteer hours dedicated to the IODE, and the annual Kermesse Fun Fair in support of the IWK Health Centre, where she also held office of treasurer for The Gift Horse at the IWK. Helping people was a passion and through her volunteer work, she strived to help anyone in need. She thoroughly enjoyed a good game of bridge, horse shows and her many friends in the horse show community, and was quite a curler in her day, always looking forward to another "8 ender".
Isabelle will be dearly missed by her two sons, Kevin (Ann), Ottawa and Peter (Peggy), Halifax, her treasured grandchildren, Carissa, Michael and Kyle; sisters-in-law, Arlene Ferguson, California, and Joyce Baker, Chilliwack, BC, as well as their families, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and close extended family, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband of 63 years, Dr. Kenneth "Ross" Ainslie, and beloved brothers, Bailie, Harold and James "Jimmie". She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Maplestone for the care and compassion while our mother was under their care for numerous years and the comfort they provided, especially since Ross passed in July of 2017.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. A celebration of Isabelle’s life will be held in July of 2018, at the Saraguay Club, 360 Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax, NS. Interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery, Shubenacadie in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Isabelle may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital. Words of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting www.walkerfh.com
