Obituary of Marjorie Greta Schnare

Age 101. It is with great sadness that the family of Marjorie Greta Schnare, announce her passing on May 26, 2018 at Arborstone Enhanced Care. Born in Sambro Head, she was a beloved daughter of the late Simon and Mable (Gray) Garrison.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Marjorie was a lifetime member and dedicated parishioner of St. James United Church, Sambro. In her early years she filled in as organist, spent many years in the choir and was a lifetime member of the U.C.W., Bible study and more. She and her sister Lila were the founding leaders of the Explorer Group.  Mom loved to bake, knit and crochet. She and Dad planted a garden every year, she loved her flowers. They took lots of trips together by airplane, train, bus trips and car. 

Marjorie is survived by her two children, daughter, Shirley Gray (Maurice); son, Allan (Shirley); 7 grandchildren, Roxanna Purcell (Bob), Teena Gray, Maurice Gray Jr. (Rose), Charlene Marryatt (Peter Cook), Jill Gray (Ron Ash), Andrew Schnare (Lori Hatt), and Allana Itani (Nadi); 13 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.  A special thank you to Darrell and Aronda Garrison for their years of kindness to Mom. She was predeceased by her loving husband Leslie of 72 years in 2007; brothers, Otto, Rexford, Cyril and Murray, a sister, Lila Gray, and a grandson-in-law, David Gray.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Abbie Lane Geriatrics, VG Hospital and Arborstone Enhanced Care.

Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at St. James United Church, Sambro, on Monday, June 4th at 2 PM, officiated by Rev. Helene Burns, with a reception to follow in the church hall.  Interment will take place for Mom and her cat, Fluffy, in St. James  United Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James United Church or Cemetery Fund, or to a charity of one’s choice.
