Obituary of Evelyn Marie Gauthier

90, Brookside, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Melville Lodge, Halifax.  Born May 19, 1928 in Ohio, Digby County, NS, she was the daughter of the late Eloie and Ester (Amirault) Leblanc.

Evelyn worked as a Nanny in Montreal and Digby, where she learned how to drive in the Sheriff’s car. She managed The Palace Restaurant on Gottingen St. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, camping, being outdoors, sewing, bingo, berry picking, pickling, clamming and being with family and friends. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jean-Claude “John” Gauthier. Evelyn is survived by sons, John (Dale) Sotirakos, Brookside and Claude Gauthier, granddaughter, Emma Gauthier of Edmonton, AB; 3 step-granddaughters, 10 step-great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was the last of her siblings, she was predeceased by her brothers, Denis “Dan” and Camille Leblanc and sister, Julienne Gaudet all of Ohio, Digby, NS.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the nurses and staff, West wing, of Melville Lodge, especially to nurse Kim and the Unit Doctor for their compassionate care and support.

Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax. In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, August 9 at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel, followed by a reception. Family flowers only. Donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to the Family to be donated in her memory to the St. Paul’s Church Building Fund in Terence Bay.
