What struck us most about Art was how genuinely he took interest in our kids lives. Though they were competing at the other end of the province, he always listened carefully and gave them sincere encouragement. No doubt the same type of relationship he had with countless other kids who were lucky enough to have known him.
We are genuinely saddened by his passing and have thought of your family often over the past few months.
Our deepest sympathies

Dear Christina,
My heart goes out to you and your family during this very difficult time. I only met Art once briefly at Seba Beach about 10 years ago. In reading about him, he sounds like an amazing man with whom you were blessed to share three children and 18 years with. Many hugs to you, my first friend.

Our heartfelt condolences to you Christina and your beautiful family. We only had the privilege of meeting Art on two occasions when you came to Edmonton to visit your own family. It was obvious to us very quickly, what a great guy Art was. We hit it off right away. We're guessing everyone Art met had the very same impression. We are so glad you are surrounded by such a wonderful family and so many great friends.

Hi Christina and all Art's family, I was a fringe friend of Art's you may or may not remember. Our circles would occasionally overlap because of my friendships with Blair Wallace and Graham Sponagle among others. The early years when Art was landscraping (his words) and going to the log camp on Chezetcook Lake. I was never connected by sport like the rest but it was other activities that brought us together briefly. Nevertheless I'm absolutely heartbroken over the loss for you and your family. Art was always one of the "good guys" to me. Someone you were always happy to see. You knew there would never be an issue. The kind of person this world needs. Circumstances didn't permit me to attend the funeral but I wanted to add one more voice to the chorus of Arty admirers. Take care and I hope joy finds you all again. Mike and Paula.

My deepest condolences to the MacDonald family. Remember to take care of yourselves during this difficult time. I am sure that Artie/Art would want that. I was unaware of his illness and shocked by the news. Growing up with him, playing tennis, hockey, golfing, bicycling, etc., he was a tough competitor and someone you wanted on your team. He was an overall great guy and will continue to be so in our memories.

The world has lost a wonderful man. We were all so fortunate to have had Art as part of our lives and the real sadness is that we did not have more time with him. My heart goes out to Christina and the "kids" but I have no doubt that they will thrive with the great memories and having had such a wonderful role model in Art.
Art was my true mentor, friend and colleague and I will miss our daily chats at the office. Speaking for our team, Art was our conscience, our leader, our supporter and always asked those questions that we did not think to ask ourselves. He made us whole.
He made me a better person!

There’s a lot that can be said of a man as great as Art. He was a grand gentleman, a great conversationalist and had a big heart. He's left a lot here in this world for us and he will live on. I first met him in 2002 at a National Sales Meeting in Mont Tremblant, QC. We didn’t cross paths again until working together with STI, but we recognized and remembered one another from the start. I have so many memories of working together. I could always trust his judgement and his close relationship with colleagues and clients. He couldn't have been more supportive, fair, honest, open and caring. He was the best. I will miss him dearly and feel honoured to have worked with him. I am so appreciative for his sound advice and shoulder to lean on. He made a big difference for a lot of people. His path involved so many detours and his experiences continue to humble me. Art remained stoic until the end. He is a model of perseverance and good humor, and he always will be for as long as always is. Anyone who spent time with him would quickly realize they were in the presence of a happy, fully-realized man, comfortable in his skin, and at peace with the world around him. Just know that upon learning the news of his passing, I found myself staring out our windows feeling love and respect for your Art, thankful for life no matter how short or long it may be. I will miss his spirit that he generously shared each day.
My wife & I extend our most heartfelt sympathies to you Christina, Alexander, Adam, Olivia and his family, and all whose lives he has touched.

Christina, please accept sincerest condolences from our family to yours. As colleagues at Abbott we often shared stories about our families and how proud we were of their achievements. He was always someone I could confide in when work issues arose. He had his priorities straight regarding work life balance. Mary Lou and I will remember the generosity you both showed us when we stopped by for a visit on a trip to Halifax, and enjoyed a voyage on MacDonald Cruise Lines ( and a few cold ones) with Captain Art at the helm. He was that kind of guy...give you the shirt of his back, help you any way he could. He will be missed.

I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Art because of our employment at Abbott Laboratories. As you know, Art was the District Manager for Atlantic Canada, and I worked in Southwest Ontario. At regional and national meetings we were always with Art and his team, so we got to know Art very well. I think that the obituary summed Art up very well. Art was so well respected by his team - he fought for them, he understood each members strengths and weaknesses and he worked hard to make each of them successful. They were without a doubt a close knit unit, and by far the most fun to be around and that is due to Art’s easy going style. I can say without reservation, Art was one of the most respected, admired and well liked managers throughout his tenure at Abbott.
You touched upon his dry humour, and that was legendary I must say.
Art will be missed. One of the “Good Guys” on this planet has been taken away far to soon.
My deepest condolences to Art’s entire family and close friends.
