Obituary of Pauline Theresa Smith

Age 85 of Halifax passed away surrounded by the love of her family, on December 31, 2018.  Pauline was born in Arichat, a daughter of the late John and Ida (LeBlanc) Theriault.  She moved to Halifax to begin her career as a seamstress, working for many years at Maritime Furriers and Mitchell Furs.  Pauline spent much of her time caring for others in her neighbourhood and volunteering at Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre.  She was a dedicated member of Northern Lights Seniors Club, St. Joseph’s CWL, and later, St. Theresa’s CWL.  A lover of the outdoors, Pauline enjoyed long walks, time in her gardens and summers at the camp.  Spending time with her family was what she cherished most – spending weekends at the lake with son Douglas (Kathy), Mt. Uniacke; attending hockey games with son Wayne (Lisa), Hubbards; and going on shopping trips with her daughter Cindy (Stephen) Norwood, Tantallon.  Pauline is also survived by her beloved grandsons, Adam, Brent, Sam and Callum; sister Rose Chisholm, Clayton Park; brother George, Arichat, as well as a number of sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Donald, grandson Daniel, brothers Armand, Tom, Vincent, Omer, and Guy; sisters Nora and Adelaide. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd.  In keeping with Pauline’s wishes there will be no visitation.  A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Catherines of Siena Parish 6476 Bayers Rd, Halifax on Tuesday January 8, 2019 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in the parish hall.  Interment at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville.  The family wishes to recognize the warmth and care Pauline received, in her final year, from the kind and supportive staff at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, or a charity of your choice. To leave words of comfort, please visit www.walkerfh.com
