Obituary of Rutis Slaunwhite

Age 95 of Terence Bay, NS,  passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 surrounded by family.  He was a son of the late Corbett and Peerless Slaunwhite.  Rutis worked most of his working years with the Department of Highways, as a flagman. During his earlier years, he worked on the waterfront.  One of his favorite past times was watching his favorite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays.  Rutis was a very kind man who often helped his friends and family whenever they needed a helping hand.  He had many close friends and family, he would enjoy them dropping by the house to catch up and have a drink. Rutis and his late wife, Hallie of 69 years, were faithful members of St Paul's Anglican Church in Terence Bay. In the early years, he and Hallie enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and enjoyed going out to dances at the Riverside Boat Club.  He is survived by his brother, Marshall Slaunwhite; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by, Hallie Slaunwhite; brothers, Melvin and Roland Slaunwhite and a baby brother in infancy.  The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Harris Crooks, the workers of Closing the Gap Home Care, VON nurses, who visited the house regularly.  Also a big thank you to his care workers and friends, Heather, Dawn and Cindy who went above and beyond to keep Rutis happy and healthy.  A special thank you to the staff at Melville Lodge who loved Rutis and treated him like he was one of their own.   Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 4:30-7:30 p.m.  A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Terence Bay on Thursday January 17th, 2019 at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Paul's Cemetery, where Rutis and Hallie will be laid to rest.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church, Terence Bay.  To express words of comfort, please visit www.walkerfh.com
