Obituary of Gertrude Bennett

known affectionately by all as “Grammy”, Passed away peacefully at the QE II, Halifax infirmary on November 13, 2019 at the age of 91. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Debbie; granddaughter, Ashley (Douglas) both of Halifax as well as her extended family across Canada and cherished friends. Gertrude worked for the Archdiocese of Nova Scotia with Archbishop James Hayes for over 30 years.  She retired to Cowie Hill to live with her family. She was a member of St. Michael’s Parish. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, love to cook, knit, play cards, “help” Ashley play video games and sharing her chair with her beloved dog, Gravy. She loved everyone she met and made them part of the family becoming “Grammy” to all. Special thanks to the QE II 8.3 staff especially Chloe and Jennifer, Meredith Skinner, Dorothy Baker, Chris Doane, Rick, Father David, Keith and Danielle Goyetche, for making her last days filled with family and friends. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, where visitation for Gertrude will take place on Saturday November 16 from 1-2pm, with a funeral service to follow in the funeral home Chapel with Father Paul MacIntosh officiating.  Donations in Gertrude’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
