Obituary of Pauline A. Mantley
72, Halifax, NS. Surrounded by love, Pauline Amy Mantley (Lee) passed away peacefully on Feb 19, 2020, at the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, NS. Born on January 17, 1948, she was the firstborn daughter to Leo & Eva (Benson) Lee. Pauline was known for living her life with, strength, courage, and humor. She received love and support from many friends and family. Pauline wanted special mention of her dear friend Paulette Cable who supported her after her husband's passing. She accompanied her to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, playing cards and just visiting and keeping her spirits up. She endured many serious illnesses, surgeries and tragic events in her life, fighting each of them, but never losing her sense of humor and love for her family and friends. Writing her book was a journey she had to take to find peace from her suffering. She helped many other young children who had experienced and suffered similar pain. She was thanked by many for being brave and sharing her story, as hard as it was for her to do. With the support, help, guidance, and care of Diane Kays (RIP) and Marjorie Willison, both women supported her during her book writing and the emotions that went with it. She overcame many obstacles in life and never gave up until she could find the peace she was striving for all her life. Writing her book brought closure to the childhood pain she endured. She was free, she found the peace she so deserved. Pauline got so much joy out of making people laugh, she will truly be remembered for her humour. When she laughed, cried and danced, you wanted to join in with her. Her spirit will truly be remembered by all who loved her. And now Pauline is at peace. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, God-mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, friend, and author. Pauline is survived by her baby boy, William Edward “Boo” Mantley Jr. (Cathy), and grand-son, Diaz Mantley (Chantal). She was fondly known as “G.G.” by her great-grandson, Isaiah Mantley, who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her sons, Tommy (Judy) and Robert. She will be missed in the hearts of her siblings, Tom (Gisele), Wayne (Claire), Jack (Germaine), Donna, Leo (Cathie), David, Linda (Larry), Judy (Lawrence), 7 nephews, 12 nieces, 10 great-nephews, 10 great-nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill) Mantley Sr., on March 3, 2016 after 48 years of marriage, as well as her parents, brothers Roger and Dennis, sister, Sheila, and a step-sister, Barbara Sturge. The family would like to thank the kind, caring palliative nurses and medical staff who made her comfortable throughout painful, stressful times she endured. Along with family members who visited bringing her joy and giggle during her final days. She always loved a good laugh and she could make you belly laugh with her jokes and shenanigans. That never ceased right up to the end.
Please join us in celebrating her life on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 from 2-4 PM at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS. In lieu of flower, Pauline wishes are for you to consider donating to a charity that most benefits children.
