Roland Rose

Obituary of Roland Earl Rose

Age 74, Halifax, passed away peacefully with his children at his side, June 13, 2020 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Hermitage, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Thomas and Olive (Rose) Rose.

After moving to Halifax in the early 70’s, Roland joined the Department of Fisheries with the Coast Guard, and retired in 2008 after 35 years of service. Roland was a loving father, grandfather and brother. During his working career, when Roland was home from sea, his life was devoted to his children, never missing an opportunity to spend quality time with them. This characteristic persisted as his grandchildren were brought into his life. He spent many hours looking after his grandchildren when they were young and attending many concerts, recitals, and sports games as they got older. He never wanted to miss an opportunity to cheer on his grandkids. Roland loved walking in the woods for hours with his beloved dog Joy. In addition to his wonderful sense of humour and compassionate spirit, he had the patience of a saint, and was loved by all who met him. Roland was an active member of Emmanuel Anglican Church for over 45 years, and enjoyed many activities such as darts, crib, and dancing.

He is survived by his children Marsha Drysdale (Richard), and Jonathan Rose (Shelley) both of Bedford; grandchildren, Sarah Drysdale and Brady and Luke Rose; sister Rubena Daigle (Gordon) Orillia, Ont. brothers Garfield, Dartmouth; Lindsay (Alma) and Louis (Elsie), both of Hermitage, NL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda (Lilly) Rose and sister Bernice Crant.

Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment to take place in Emmanuel Anglican Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Emmanuel Anglican Church, Spryfield.
