Sending my prayers and thoughts to Jeans family. I first met Jean at Brownies in Spryfield after enrolling my daughter. Because they were looking for more leaders I volunteered and got to work with Jean for about 8 years, Thank you Jean for volunteering with brownies for 20 years, it’s people like her that make our community great. I had some wonderful memories with my time volunteering with her and remember what a beautiful person she was. She will be missed. Take care

Cathie, Cora, Geoff, Elliot and Jean's family. What can I say, I was so sorry to hear that your Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother had passed away. It is not easy losing a loved one but knowing that they are not suffering anymore hopefully makes the loss a little more bearable. May all your fond, happy and loving memories help to sustain you through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

I am saddened that I will not get to see you again Jean. My years at the Saraguay Club and my life overall were enriched each minute I had a privilege to be in your company. Always the work "mom" keeping us in line (especially Tony, lol), you were there for a kind word when I needed it, and told me when I needed to pull up my socks, suck it up, and move on. You were ever so real and I always felt a warmth and kindness when you were around. I often speak of my Saraguay days and the many antics we were part of. Thank you for those memories. I will cherish them!

My memories of Mama Jean are boundless. They didn't start out with cards, they started out with protection. I was the first of Danny, Di, and I to have the privilege of knowing our Mama. She hardly knew me but when some unsavory people came looking for me because my former roommate owed them money, Mama looked them straight in the eye and told them I was gone.
First I lived above her, but it wasn't til I moved across the hall that we became family. I don't even know when the cards started, I just know they did. She roped us all in somehow lol. Our relationship was more than cards. She took care of me.
When I was living across the hall from her with Danny and he was always playing jokes on her by tooth pasting her door knobs, or buttering her hand if she fell asleep at our house while watching a movie. When I hurt my back, she came over ever morning to help dress me when Bridgette called her to say I was up. Bridgette lived below us so always heard my feet hit the floor. Took care of me after my surgery. Came to all the parties we ever had.
Then I moved just across the parking lot with Di and she came into Jean's fold. All the card games and meals we shared prior to those cards lol. With Di and I, we always had to play cards with her; Danny not so much, just a little lol.
The memories of Bridgette getting so angry at her during card games accusing her of letting me win at hearts, that she was her daughter. Jean always said that when it came to cards there was no family lol.
Know matter the distance or how long it was between visits she always made you feel loved.
She met my Derrick and told him right off she hated his beard lol. Holds nothing back lol. Made him play skippo with us too lol.
Getting to know Cora Jean, Felicia, the storm that was Bridgette, Mary Patricia, Denise, Cathy, Carolyn, and even Beverley, who lived so far away. I cannot express my sorrow for you girls for having lost that beautiful soul from your lives.
There are so many more and none of them bad, which is a testament of her. Always having good memories.
Goodbye my Mama Jean. Know that we all loved you just like you loved us.

I am someone who has always struggled to make friends, to open up to people. With Jean, there was no struggle, no effort necessary. Like the sun rising, she crept into my life and warmed me with her presence. She brought with her laughter, attitude, wisdom, and love. After knowing Jean only a few months she met my Mom and they were instant friends. The same with my Dad a few months later.
Despite knowing that Jeannie had daughters that were my age and older and granddaughters that were only a few years younger, I never thought of Jean as being a contemporary of my parents. She was too young at heart for that. Always up for a party or a laugh. She was the crazy lady from across the parking lot, who would call you foul names if you dropped the queen of spades on her in a game of hearts or ply you with cookies and advice when you really needed it.
There are numerous stories we can all tell about the good times with Jean. My favorite was the time that Eliz and I were walking home with her after Bingo?/cribbage?/bowling ? We made her laugh so hard that she had to tears running down her leg! She was so mad because we were only 2 houses away from home and she couldn’t make it, but she forgave us as soon as she got home and she could change.
We had a lot of good times with Jeannie, BBQs , suppers, parties, Halloweens and of course card games! There was nothing that woman like more than cards of any type. Except her family...which I was lucky enough to be adopted into. Thank you, Jean. My friend, my family, my second mother. I love you.
