When our parents moved to Windsor Crescent our family was welcomed warmly by the McEacherns. One day Dad was trying to manoeuvre our car on our driveway that had two cement strips and a grass strip in the middle. He ended up off the cement & stuck. Colin, who was walking by returning from work in a suit, helped push Dad’s car back onto the cement so Dad could drive into the garage. Then they shook hands & introduced themselves. Colin was a true gentleman, a great neighbour, a true friend. He always had a friendly greeting & was a fascinating person with whom to have a longer conversation. He was so proud of his children & is going to be sorely missed. Our heartfelt condolences to Melba & the family.
Sincerely,
the Armstrong girls

Colin and Bob Pickens hired me to work at the London Children's Aid Society in 1980. Everyone liked and respected Colin. I know of no one more connected to the social work community in London than Colin. He had a remarkable life!
My condolences to his family.

Colin was my supervisor during my fourth year social work placement in 1977. He was very supportive and patient with me during this year of learning. He helped launch me in my Child Welfare Career. Colin lived in my neighbourhood and when I would run into him during his daily walk he was always interested in how my work and my family were doing.
Condolences to his family

I was hired by Colin at the Children's Aid Society of London in 1981. I remember him with fondness as he was most welcoming, very supportive and encouraging and set me on my path of a long career in child welfare. My condolences to his family.

Colin interviewed me and subsequently hired me to work at the London Children’s Aid Society in 1980. I remember the interview to this day as Colin was very kind and encouraging given that I had travelled from Scotland for the sole purpose of trying to secure employment as a social worker. When the formal part of the interview was completed, we spent a considerable amount of time talking about Scotland and sharing our mutual love of the country.
When I arrived in London to start work, Colin was very warm and welcoming and I felt very fortunate to have met such a greatly respected senior leader at London CAS, with whom I enjoyed regular conversations about Scotland.
My condolences to his family.

Colin was a senior leader at the London CAS and he hired me many years ago. I remember his kindness and encouragement. I remember him calling me to offer me the job and explain everything. I had a crying baby in the background but it seemed to not bother him. I remember him with fondness

For those of us who worked at London CAS this is an immense loss. Colin hired many of us in his role with Human Resources, and was considered a wise counsel. A true gentleman indeed.
Our condolences to Mabel and the family.

I am deep sorry for the great loss, and want to send my love and special regards to Melba, Bonnie, Isla and all the family members. I keep them in my heart.
Melba and Colin were the best that happened to me when I went to Canada.
I lived with them for a while in 1983 and they opened not only their house but their hearts. All I received was love and support until the last day.
Love, Bela Agudelo from Colombia

The memory of Colin that is most prominent in my mind is of him barrelling down my very steep backyard hill, so he could get in the lake. With very little sight, on a very precarious slope, he picked up great speed and was totally out of control. All I could do was watch and hold my breath. I was amazed when he arrived lakeside perfectly intact, cool as a cucumber and ready to put his feet in the water.
