Obituary of Douglas Ross Feltmate

FELTMATE, Douglas Ross. Age 82 of Halifax.

 

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Douglas Ross Feltmate on September 22, 2022 at Parkstone Enhanced Care (Clayton Park) where he had resided for nine months.

 

Douglas was born in Antigonish, NS on July 2, 1940 and was the son of the late Roland Sr and Martha (Randall) Feltmate.

 

Douglas is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn (Sabean) Feltmate; daughter, Colleen, Halifax, NS; twin sons, Jason (Kimberly), Lake Echo, NS and Trevor (Pamela), Halifax, NS; and treasured grandsons, Travis, Halifax, NS, Joshua and Lucas, Lake Echo, NS.

 

The oldest of seven children, Douglas is survived by brothers, Roland Jr (Linda) Feltmate, Calgary, AB; Harold (Sharon) Feltmate, Frontier, SK; sisters, Rosalie (Gerry) Denouden, Grand Lake, NS; Lillian (Winston) Sangster, New Harbour, NS; Sylvia Prouty, Camlachie, ON; sisters-in-law, Margaret Sabean, Halifax, NS; Clara Sabean, London, ON; June Luce Sabean, London, ON; and brother-in-law, Allan Sabean (Doris), St. Albert, AB; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Douglas was predeceased by his parents, as well as his infant sister Helen and brothers-in-law Elliott Prouty, Wilfred (Bill) Sabean, Perry Sabean, Curtis (Max) Sabean, Keith Sabean, and Wesley Sabean.

 

He retired from MT&T (Bell Aliant) in December 1999 after 35 years of service. Douglas enjoyed fishing, old cars, gardening, and working around his property, tending to what needed to be done. He attended and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Spryfield, NS for close to 37 years until health issues prevented him from doing so. Douglas will be lovingly remembered as a kind, patient and caring man who was always there for his family. We love you and will greatly miss you!

 

The family would like to thank Dr. Terrance Higgins, Dr. Kailee Sutherland, and Dr. David King for their many years of professional care and kindness. The family also wishes to express gratitude to the nurses, care workers, and other staff on Garden Court (Parkstone) who provided their excellent care while Douglas was a resident there.

 

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at 1pm, prior to the funeral service, which will be held at 2:30pm on Tuesday, October 4th at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Halifax, NS with Rev. Carl Price officiating. A livestream link down below. Interment will take place Friday, October 7th in Fundy View Cemetery, Port Lorne, Annapolis Co, NS at 1pm.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Douglas’ name to Parkinson Society Nova Scotia or to a charity of your choosing.
