Obituary of Elaine Ruth Shugarue

It is with profound sadness that we announce the

passing of Elaine Ruth Shugarue at the age of 67 years

on Friday, February 24, 2023.

Born in Buchans, Newfoundland, in 1955, to Harold and Daisy Layte. Elaine spoke highly of her small town and always loved “going home”. For the past 33 years, Elaine has resided in Fall River, Nova Scotia, with the love of her life where they built their dream home and raised their children.  Elaine was a beloved mother, wife, friend, and colleague. Especially to the gang on Laura Court, those she met through her 47 years of service in the airline industry working with the Eastern Provincial Airlines, Canadian, and Air Canada, and her very best friend, Mary Alice O’Reilly.  Elaine was an avid walker and was grateful for those she met around her neighbourhood during her daily 10km walks. She had a love of nature and lived life to the fullest, always stopping to smell the roses.  She is survived by her son, Jason (Olivia); daughter, Victoria (Mitch); brothers, Roy (Barb); Jerry (Anita); sister, Jean; brother, Harold (Shari); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, Bill Shugarue; father, Harold Layte; mother, Daisy Layte; and her nephew, Rodney Layte.  Elaine’s whole life was her children, family, friends, and her work.

Memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Fall River on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 2:00 pm.  Charitable Donations may be made in honour of Elaine Shugarue in lieu of flowers to St-Thomas Anglican Church, Fall River, Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff on 8.2 at the Halifax Infirmary, as well as the palliative team for their care and compassion.
