Obituary of Tom Murphy

Murphy, Thomas "Tom" Goodland

Age 93 of Halifax, it is with great sadness that the family of Thomas “Tom” Murphy announce his passing on Thursday, June 8th, 2023.  Born in Grand Bank, NFLD, Tom was the son of the late Edward and Hanna Murphy.  

Tom eventually made Nova Scotia his home where he fell in love and married Laura (Perry) Murphy.   He spent his life working hard to support his family and retired in 1995.  Tom spent his years tinkering in the shed, spending time with his grandchildren, and being a member of the CNIB/CCB playing crib and bowling. 

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Laura “Betty “whom he shared 63 years of marriage with; daughters, Darlene Murphy, and Wanda (Shawn) Burke; brother, Bruce (Joyce) Brinson; grandchildren, Loretta (Mikey) McPhee, and Wanda Gear, Liam, and Kaitlyn Burke; great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Ben, Logan, Addison, and Summer; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by siblings, Henry, Bill, George, Stan, and Margaret; great-granddaughter, Karalynn. 

Arrangements and Cremation have taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax.  In keeping with Tom’s wishes, a visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 14th at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, from 2-4 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in memory to the CNIB or a charity of your choice.
