Obituary of Margaret Martha Murphy

With hearts full of love and memories we share the news of the sudden passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Margaret Martha Murphy (Gillis). Margaret passed away peacefully with her family at her side in Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 11, 2024. Born on May 26, 1934, in Murray River, Prince Edward Island.

Margaret was a strong-willed, loving, and kind individual who took great care and pride in all that she endeavored including her long career with the Hudson Bay Company. She was a true friend to many. She welcomed all into her home and always made time to chat.

Mourning her loss are her two children, Kevin (Jayne) and Vicki (Jerry Dunn); four grandchildren, Joseph (Dinah), Sherry (Jason Forester), Brittany, and Patrick; and four great-grandchildren, Colette, Rebekah, Madeline, and Conrad; and her devoted companion, Harold Doucette.

She is predeceased by her husband, Vincent Murphy; her parents, Bessie and James Gillis; and her sister, Verna (Bud) Osbourne.

Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2024 in the J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax. Buiral will be in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.
