Sean & the entire Dempsey family:
On behalf of the SPEARNS family , I would like to express our sincere condolences on the passing of your Dad - “ Surry “
Your Mum & Dad were such a blessing to our family and our community of Herring Cove. St Paul’s Avenue was such a great place to raise children and every child living on our street knew the kindness of “ Bernie & Surry “.
Our family were so grateful for the support and kindness that your Mum & Dad provided to our parents - Theresa & JJ - especially the siblings who lived away during their battles with Cancer.
Your Mum & Dad would prepare meals for them and certainly their visits buoyed their spirits through some of those dark days.
I will never forget them preparing a huge pot of seafood chowder during a “ Living Wake / Ceilidh “ for JJ back in Jan 2001. What a feast !
They worked alongside of so many friends that night, in a driving snow storm …. We filled the Herring Cove Volunteer Fire hall and no one left hungry. I can still see your Mum and Dad dishing out heaping bowls of chowder and rolls to a crew serving the crowds that came to see JJ & Theresa.
I have so many positive memories of your parents , and while Surry’s passing is difficult for all of your family, I hope that you will take some comfort in knowing that Surry is now reunited with Bernie and all their family members and friends.
I am sure that St Peter met Surry at the Pearly Gates and pointed him to Bernie . I can see them walking towards a calm lake , fully stocked with trout , and a canvas punt and rod & reel all kitted up waiting for them.
My guess , they had one big fish fry and perhaps a cold beverage to enjoy their fishing trip.
God’s best
Pamela & Michael P. SPEARNS
