Obituary of Sheila June Marie Emmons

EMMONS, Sheila June Marie 82 of Sambro passed away peacefully on May 20th at the VG Hospital site in Halifax.  She was the daughter of Frederick and Dorothy (Ryan) Laing.

Sheila was very artistic and did beautiful sketches, especially of horses.  She was also a talented guitar player and entertained at dances and kitchen parties along with family and friends in her younger years.  Sheila spent most of her career working in the ticket office of the Halifax Police Department and retired after many years in November of 2000.  She met her husband Jim later in life, and they made wonderful memories together until his sudden passing in 1997.  Sheila was a Jehovah’s Witness and enjoyed serving with the brothers and sisters of her congregation.

Sheila was predeceased by her husband James Emmons, and siblings Shirley Zloty, Kenneth Laing, Joan Gray, and Frank Laing.  She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Miriam Lunn for all her support and care in recent years, and also to friends Pat Irons and Lynn Mitchell.

Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax.  Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.  A service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Saturday, June 1st at 1:30 pm at 6192 Charles Street, Halifax, N.S.
