Obituary of Goldie Margaret Hart

HART, Goldie Margaret – Age 91 of Sambro. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Goldie Margaret Hart on May 25, 2024, with her loving family by her side. Born in Sambro Head, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret (Gaskin) Gray.

Goldie leaves behind her children, Donny (Mandy), Sambro Head, Michael (Debbie), Herring Cove, and Allie (Sharon), Herring Cove; grandchildren, Matthew (Jill), Kady (Douglas), Michael (Tiffany), Nicholas (Jessica), Abby (Justin), Brandon (Maria), Emma (Matthew), Maggie (Jacob), and Julia (Ryan); 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary, Murray (Phyllis), Wayne (Glenda), and Shirley (Gary). Goldie was predeceased by her loving husband, Sherman; grandson, David Hart; brothers, Brenton, Arthur, and Donald Gray.

Mom was one of a kind. She spoke her mind and had a great sense of humor. Mom and Dad spent many fun times at dances with lots of friends dancing the night away. Above all, mom loved her boys. Any trips to town would include a special treat for them. She was a wonderful mother-in-law and was grateful for three “daughters”. Mom deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always had treats for them at the “store” to much delight.

At age 16, Goldie worked at Simpsons Sears for 5 years as an elevator operator, then worked in retail mail order. Besides her family, Goldie’s greatest enjoyment was playing BINGO. She was an avid bingo player, playing up to 8 cards at once, and could often be found at the Spryfield Bingo Hall. Goldie also enjoyed cooking and organizing functions at the local “Silver Seas Social Club” then later at the Seniors Golden Age home.

Goldie wants to thank her special friends and her caregivers, Rhonda Gray and Gordon, along with her neighbors Sherry and Marty Henneberry who had dropped off numerous meals and kept her company over the later years.

Donations may be made to the St. James United Church, Sambro, in lieu of flowers. In keeping with Goldie’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family burial will take place.
