Obituary of Judy Zinck-Young

The family wishes to announce the passing of our mom / grandmother / great-grandmother, Judy, on May 31, 2024 at the QEII, Halifax Infirmary, Halifax. Born on December 11, 1945, in Terence Bay, NS, she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Minnie Slaunwhite of Terence Bay.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Chris) Jefferies, her son, Laurie Zinck (Ruth), both of Terence Bay, her grandchildren, Marcia, Erika, and Matthew, her great grandchildren, Bentley, Wyley, Anthony, and Keaton, sisters, Jeanette Brophy and Leona Schlay, both of Terence Bay, and Louise (Barry) Slaunwhite of Manitoba, along with many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her son, Christopher, daughters, Tanya and Michelle in infancy, her husband, Thomas Young, her children’s father, Wayne Zinck, a sister, Helena and brothers, Colin, Garnet, and Gary Slaunwhite.

Mom loved spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, going to bingo and time spent at her cottage in Stewiacke. She had a sharp tongue and loved to laugh and listen to country classics. In her earlier years, she loved going in the boat for day excursions and dancing, especially jiving with her brother, Garnet. Prior to being a stay-at-home mom, she worked at O’Brien’s Packers, Moir’s and as a cleaner.

Special thanks to her caregivers, Mary, Della and Peggy, for caring for mom in her final days.

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 2-4 pm at the J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax. At 6 pm a funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel, with visitation until 8 pm.

Interment will be 11 am Friday, June 7, 2024 at Star of the Sea Cemetery, Terence Bay.
