Obituary of Darlene Bernadette Benedict

BENEDICT, Darlene Bernadette- Age 62, It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darlene Bernadette Benedict, beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed from this world on May 29th, 2024, at the age of 62. She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter to the late Edward Benedict and Rita (Kelly) Benedict.

 

Darlene was predeceased by her brother, Bruce Benedict; nephew, Adam Swinamer; brother-in-law, Royce Tucker. She is survived by her brother, Tim (Donna) Benedict; sisters, Susan Benedict, and Heather Tucker; daughter, Vanessa Benedict; grandchildren, Ieshia and Mateo Benedict. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and supportive friends.

 

In addition to her roles as a beloved family member and friend, Darlene dedicated over a decade of her life at the Department of National Defense in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her commitment to her work was unwavering, and her contributions were invaluable to her colleagues and community. Despite facing health challenges, Darlene remained steadfast in her dedication until she medically retired, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity.

 

Darlene's love for baking extended beyond her famous banana bread and pies; every Christmas, she gathered with family to bake batches of festive cookies, spreading warmth and joy during the holiday season. Her passion for karaoke filled many hearts with joy, and her talent for darts at the Spryfield Legion earned her well-deserved recognition. She found joy in playing bingo and was a familiar and respected presence in her community.

 

Her nurturing nature was evident in her devotion to raising her granddaughter for 14 years. Darlene was known for always prioritizing the needs of her family and others, earning her the love and respect of all who knew her. While she had a gentle and caring demeanor, she was not afraid to speak her mind and stand up for what was right.

 

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Halifax Infirmary for their unwavering care and support during Darlene's final days. Your dedication and kindness provided comfort to Darlene and her family during a challenging time, and we are forever grateful for your efforts.

 

Darlene Bernadette Benedict leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.

 

Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home,149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax.  In keeping with Darlene’s wishes, there will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday June 7th, from 12-1. Followed by a funeral service from 1-2, with mingling after the service until 3 p.m.
