I've known Robert since public school. I rode out to visit him last summer when he was declining and had planned to come back. I did get to spend some time with my old friend, that was good.
Rest in peace Robert.

I’ve known Robert since 1978 Georgian College Navigation School.
I liked him very much and so did his peers, particularly for sense of humour, wit and humanistic sense of fairness to all.
He will be missed and I know he liked to teach.

It is with great sadness that I send my condolences to Roberts family. I have known Robert since the 70's We were classmates at Georgian College, starting our professional marine careers on the same day. Rest in Peace Robert. The marine community has lost a very dedicated member.

We are glad to have known Robert. He could be funny, but considering what he was going through those last months, it was very hard for him to accept. He was truly thankful for those who helped him, and he had a generous nature. We pray he is at peace.

Bob was a kindhearted and likeable guy. He was highly motivated in his ambitions to pass on his knowledge to younger less experienced mariners.
It was a pleasure to have known you Bob.

I first met Bob when he was fourth mate on the Gulf Gatineau, an oil tanker with Gulf Canada back in 1982. I worked with Bob on watch and he was a kind quiet person to work with, always very job focussed, and he was always interesting to talk to. In later years I worked with him at QHM on a tug. He was always very interested in teaching and what the industry was doing overall. RIP Bob. Rob Sutherland
