Obituary of Greta Constance Walters

WALTERS, Greta Constance- Age 91 of Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Greta Constance Walters (Murphy) on July 1, 2024, at the QEII Abbie J. Lane Hospital, Halifax.  Born in Halifax, she was the eldest daughter of the late Harry Joseph and Emily Constance (Adams) Murphy.

She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, George "Buddy" William Walters; brother, Allen; sisters, Carol, Lillian, Marjorie, Rose, and Violet.

She is survived by her five children, Karen (Kern), Janet (Guy), Kathy (Johnny), Phillip (Becky), and Paul (Tanya); grandchildren, Darren (Erin), Jacob (Morgan), Sarah, Gabriel, and Daniel; step-grandchildren, Ashley, and Kristen; great-grandchildren, Jaxson, and Flynn; sisters, Mary, and Donna (Dennis); brothers, Vincent (Dink), and Gerold; many nieces and nephews.

Mom was an avid bingo and card player.  She enjoyed her word search and jigsaw puzzles.  And she loved music!  She was always happy having her family and friends in her home.  And most of all, she loved caring for her children and grandchildren.

Greta’s last employment was at the Royal NS Yacht Squadron where she worked for 25 years, retiring at 69.  She frequently spoke of the many wonderful years that she spent there.

Our mother was a sweet, caring soul and much loved by all who knew her.  She will be forever missed.

Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax.  In keeping with Greta's wishes there will be no visitation.  A funeral will take place in the funeral home Chapel on Monday, July 8th, 2024, at 1 p.m., with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army, Emmanuel Church (Spryfield), Alzheimer's Society, Cancer Society, or any charity of one's choice.
