Obituary of Leonard George Doward

Leonard G. Doward (CPO1)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Leonard G. Doward (Len) on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Len was a dedicated and honorable man, having served his country with distinction as a 30-year veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy. After his retirement, he continued his commitment to service with 10 years as a Commissionaire at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.

Len is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joanne Doward (Bradbury), his cherished daughter, Chole Stacey (John), and his devoted son, John Doward. He was a proud grandfather to Kenna, Broden, and Dillen Stacey, who brought immense joy to his life.  He is also survived by his brothers, Steve (Monica) and Ralph Doward, and his sisters, Janis Jerram (Keith) and Wanda Angelo (Robert). Len will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Alice Hogan (Roger), his brother-in-law, James (Nancy), and his many nieces and nephews.

Len was predeceased by his parents, John L. Doward and Dorothy Collins, his sister, Elizabeth, and his brother, Dell.

A lover of all sports, Len found great joy in the outdoors. He cherished Sunday drives and walks with his loyal companion Tucker, the time spent fishing and golfing with his devoted son, John, and the many visits with his daughter Chole and his three grandchildren, creating family memories that will be treasured forever.

Len’s legacy of service, love, and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeplymissed by his wife, his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.  A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in Len’s memory.
