Obituary of Gary Walton Cochrane
COCHRANE, GARY Walton- Age 76 of Halifax, passed away peacefully at the QEII Health Sciences Centre surrounded by his family after his ongoing battle with illness on August 24, 2024. Born in Halifax, he was the eldest son of the late Walter and Pearl (Pickrem) Cochrane.
Gary was very gifted when it came to fixing any type of vehicle. He showed an uncanny ability to fix all things and enjoyed working with his hands. With great determination there was nothing he couldn’t build or fix! Gary was an auto mechanic for the majority of his life and a lover of cars having owned too many to even count! Gary was a devoted family man and a loving husband, who loved to spend time with his family.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Cochrane; son, Tim Cochrane (Larissa); daughter, Amy Boyd (Mick); grandchildren, Kelsey Dixon, Hunter, Bryson, and baby Cochrane due to arrive this September; grand doggies, Bella and Ruby; sisters, Heather, Bonnie (Phil), and Jean (Tom); brother-in-law, Glen Kaiser; sister-in-law, Bev Kaiser; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela; brother, Leo (Jocelyn); sister, Gail (Fisher); brother-in-law, Jeff Dempsey; sister-in-law, Suzanne Oakley.
The Cochrane family would like to thank his friends Chris, Allan, and John, who supported and visited him throughout his illness.
Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Halifax. In keeping with Gary’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. We invite you to privately celebrate Gary’s memory in your own ways.
