Obituary of Eileen Dorothy Hartling
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eileen Dorothy Hartling of Halifax, NS. Eileen passed away following a long battle with cancer on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the New Halifax Infirmary, Halifax, NS, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy (Smith) McDermott.
Eileen was a woman who was true to her Irish characteristics -she was kind, loyal and very giving. In her retirement, she and Ernie travelled the city in search of gifts that she would provide to others. Eileen enjoyed an evening of Bingo with her sisters and was happy when surrounded by friends and family. Over Eileen's career she spent many years working with the Health Authority, and during that time she was fortunate enough to meet a few colleagues who became very special friends who she cherished.
Eileen's greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in her annual Christmas Eve gathering and was most happy to have all of her family under one roof. Mom you will be missed dearly.
Eileen will be forever missed and never forgotten by her husband of 61 years Ernie Hartling, and their children Tracey Tattrie (Evan), Ernie Hartling (Beth), Jason Hartling (Jennifer), eight grandchildren, Kerri-Ann, Brooklyn, Nick (Simge), Grace (Josh), Baleigh, Shawnee (Ray), Rylee (Kyle), JT (Raven), and Zoe, and six great-grandchildren, Braxton, Bryson, Salem, Rohan, Avayah, and Kyzen. She is survived by her brother, Dyrick McDermott, a sister, Donna McDermott, as well numerous special nieces, nephews, and family members.
Eileen was predeceased by parents, Edward and Dorothy McDermott, a brother, John McDermott, and a sister, Marnie Pellow, as well as special nieces, nephews and many family members.
A private family ceremony will be held. In memory of Eileen, you may make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or Eileen would love it if you were to perform an act of kindness for a family member or a stranger.
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be ever at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rain falls soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
may you be held in the hollow of God's Hand.
