COPP, David Arlington- Age 76 of Halifax, it is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of our beloved David Arlington Copp on December 14th, 2024, at Melville Gardens, after a long illness.
A proud Cape Bretoner, born in Sydney, David was the son of the late Arlington and Beatrice (Griffin) Copp.
David later moved to Saint John, New Brunswick, where he completed his Bachelor of Engineering. He relocated to Halifax to complete his Master of Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia, and then his LL.B. from Dalhousie University. His law practice focused on Intellectual Property Law, and he also taught IP and Law for Engineers at the Faculties of Law and Engineering, Dalhousie.
He was particularly proud of his successful case in defense of Glenora Distillery in Cape Breton against the Scotch Whisky Association.
David was a passionate sailor, a valiant captain of Sequester, a lifelong member of the Armdale Yacht Club, a dedicated Scout Leader, and an avid Tai Chi and Aikido practitioner. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, loving his Harley Davidson Sportster. He also took great pride in his cocktails and was a most accomplished – and appreciated – mixologist!
David leaves behind to mourn, his wife, Martine; sons, William (Boston), and Sebastian, partner Jennifer Anderson (Tatamagouche); cousin, Carl; nephews, (Toronto).
Arrangements have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Halifax. Service details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Society [Cure PSP], or any charity of your choice.
