Obituary of Terrance Donald Bobbitt
BOBBITT, Terrance “Terry” Donald- Age 85, of Halifax. It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Terry Bobbitt, on January 19, 2025at Shannex, Moody Hall. Born in Halifax, N.S. on July 17, 1939, Terry was a son of the late Ivan and Lena (Landry) Bobbitt.
Terry had a passion for hunting, fishing, gardening, hockey and baseball. Terry was also known to run marathons in his younger years – including the Johnny Miles Running Event – and even won a few. He enjoyed cheering on the Toronto Maple Leaf’s and Toronto Blue Jays. Terry enjoyed walking in his yard with any visitors who would show an interest in his beautiful garden; enjoying the colours and history of his flowers and plants that he spent many hours on.
Terry was always involved in his community of Spryfield. In earlier. years, he spent many hours coaching hockey and baseball and helped raise funds for the new rink for all to enjoy in Spryfield. He also participated in the MacIntosh Run annual clean-up. As an adult, Terry was a long-time proud member of the Spryfield Legion Branch #152 where he was the President for several terms. He enjoyed visiting seniors and various schools in the community in his capacity as Legion President and as a proud community member. Terry worked diligently at the Halifax Herald until his retirement at the age of 55.
Terry is survived by his siblings, Victor, Faye, Diane, Janet, David, and Linda; six daughters of whom he adored and loved deeply, Joan Alexander, Tanya Szarko, Terri-Ann Scarfe (Tom), Belinda Heighton (Jamie), Marcie Harnish, and Marla Therrien (Tony); grandchildren, T.J. and Cal Heighton, Thomas and Trent Scarfe, Rene and Jason Alexander, Christopher Matchem, Natheniel and Genevieve Therrien, Mallory Soder, Madicynn and Mya Harnish, Jamie and Julianne Szarko; great- grandchildren, Royce Alexander, Chase and Cienna Matchem, Jordyn and Thomas Scarfe, Troy Scarfe, Alec and Grant Heighton, Sloane Soder; special neighbours and dear friends, Rickey Martell and Darryl Kenney. Terry was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Beverly Morris Bobbitt; siblings, Wally, Albert, John, Sonny, Harold, and Joan.
The family would like to acknowledge the special care given to our father by the staff on the 3rd floor of Shannex, Moody Hall.
Arrangements and cremation are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax. In keeping with Terry’s wishes there will be a Funeral Service will be on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Live Streaming of the funeral Service will be available (Please see Link below). A celebration of life will follow at the Spryfield Legion, 7 Sussex Street following the Funeral Service.
