Obituary of Albert Lawrence

Age 73, Halifax, we, the family of Albert Charles Richard Lawrence are sorry to announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather on March 9th, 2017, after a short battle with cancer that was fought with courage, dignity, and no complaints. He was employed at HMC Dockyard for 4 years before moving on to the Biomedical Engineering Department at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax for a 27 year career. Through those years, he found time to help coach a Little League Baseball team on Fort Needham and volunteered for a Neighbourhood Watch program sponsored by the Halifax Police Department. He also served 4 years with the Halifax branch of the Army Reserves. He was an avid reader and never found a book he didn't like. He also enjoyed astronomy and watching the Toronto Blue Jay games and golf on TV, as well as assorted other interests. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia "Pat"; children, Jeannette (Alfred Smith); Anthony; Jeffery (Amanda Friel) and Michelle; grandchildren, Jacqueline and Donald Smith; Aunt Jessie Lawrence and family in Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Viola (Binns). Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. In keeping with Ricks wishes, there will be no visitation or service. There will be a prayer service with his ashes will be interred on Tuesday March 14 at 11 a.m. in St. John's Cemetery on the Bedford Highway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Though we wish Rick could have stayed longer, we're thankful for our many years of laughter, love, and special memories. We would sincerely like to thank all our family and friends for the prayers, thoughts, and support during this time. We would also like to thank the nursing staff of 5B in the Centennial Building for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Rick through every stage of his illness and the kindness shown to his family.
