Obituary of Harold Clifford Mason

It is with great love and affection we announce the passing of our father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and friend of many on March 30, 2017. Harold (Dad) passed away peacefully surrounded by a large circle of family after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dad was born in Halifax in 1930 and was the son of the late Murray and Dorothy Mason (Langille). Dad leaves behind Mary, his wife of 64 years and daughters, Karen (Larry) Clement, Janice (Tim) Ainsworth, Michael (Janice Parsons) five granddaughters, sisters, Delores (Stan), Beverley and Marilyn and "adopted" sisters Theresa Goodwin and Betty DeWolfe along with many nieces, nephews, five great grandchildren and many long standing friends in Halifax. Dad was a character to be remembered by all he connected with as a man with many passions. His first passion was his wife Mary, to whom he was a loyal husband side by side through the many years raising three children and running a business. Dad was passionate about his career which started as a salesman with Canadian Liquid Air in his early working life and later he seized the opportunity to own his business, Twin Cites Oxygen, which he successfully managed until his retirement at the age of 67. Dad was passionate about music, and he was a talented guitarist and singer spending many years entertaining his family and friends with his repertoire of country tunes. He loved his dogs and when they each left this world he was heartbroken. Dad was lovably quirky and kind. If his family or friends had a need he could never refuse any request. Many a family member and friends were helped by extending loans and a place to stay throughout his entire life. He loved being a prankster and with his influence as a family we spent many years concocting the best of jokes to play on each other which now are the best and the funniest of memories. Special Thanks to the QEII, 8th floor palliative care and nurses attending to Dad’s care. Arrangements have been made with J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Road for a Service for Harold Mason at 2:00 pm on Saturday April 8th, 2017 followed by a Celebration of Life reception at 3:00 pm at the same location. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
