Obituary of Esther Lloyd Morrison
Age 92, Halifax, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 11, 2017 at Melville Lodge. Born in Weymouth, to Lloyd Haliburton and Jennie Myrtle (Henderson) Potter.
A loving mother with a kind heart of strong spirit and a devotion to the less fortunate. She cared deeply for animals and enjoyed the beauty of nature, poetry and music. Esther attended the Sacred Heart Convent and the Conservatory of Music as a teen and being blessed with a beautiful high soprano voice, she studied with teacher Ernesto Vinci. One of the highlights of her life was singing "Summertime" on the stage of the Capitol Theatre for the WWII troops, the chandeliers would have been trembling that evening. She took training to be a nursing sister at the old Halifax Infirmary.
She is survived by her children; Susan Faith Cook (Tony); Heather Dawn Mowry (David); John B.H. and James R. Morrison; brother, David R. Potter; grandchildren, Sarah, Jennifer, Andrew Morrison and Meredith O’Neill and great grandson Hunter Morrison Harris. She was predeceased by her husband Donald How Morrison (1999); sisters, Barbara Hanright and Margaret Louise Rempel.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. Family and friends will be invited to an afternoon tea in the garden in the "Summertime" to celebrate her life with the internment to follow in Fairview Lawn Cemetery Halifax. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the SPCA.
We would like to express a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Melville Lodge. Their kindness and compassion will always be remembered.
