Obituary of Edward C. Oakley
80, Sambro. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Edward Oakley. Dad passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 23, 2017, at the VG Site, QEII on 7A, Palliative Care Unit.
Family was everything to Dad. He enjoyed and lived for his children and grandchildren's accomplishments and successes. As an avid outdoorsman and hunting enthusiast, Dad enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his beloved camp. Many memories were made at the camp, and his spirit will continue to live on there. Dad loved the ocean and was a proud member of the Sambro Community.
He leaves behind his soulmate and loving wife of 58 years, Sandy, daughters, Kim Mackay (Gary), Williamswood and Joanne Darrah (Carmen), Herring Cove; son, Eddie Oakley (Cindy), Sambro; as well as his five grandchildren, Megan, Genevieve, Korey, Morgan, Sophia, and his great granddaughter, Scarlett. He will also be missed by his sister, Jessie Hampton and too many nieces and nephews to count. Dad was predeceased by his grandson and best friend, Kyle. Not a day went by that he did not start his morning without Kyle on his mind and in his heart. He will also be greeted by his mother, father and 12 siblings.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27 from 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 28 at 11 AM in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment will take place in Ketch Harbour. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Sambro Area Community Association or 6 Link at the IWK Health Centre.
