Obituary of Crystal Dawn Boutilier

Age 48 died on June 9th, 2017 in Halifax, NS after an aggressive battle with cancer. Crystal was born on October 6, 1968 in Halifax, NS, to the late James Kernick and Dorothy Kernick (Forwell). She grew up in a loving family with one sister, Gail Kernick and one brother, Jimmy Kernick. Crystal enjoyed being with her friends and having fun. She enjoyed working with the public during her time at the Steak and Burger, royal Canadian Legion and as a private cleaner. She gave birth to her first son Steven at 21. Crystal married Ken Boutilier on August 31,1991. Jamie, her second son, was born on December 24, 1991. Crystal was happy to live and raise her children in Halifax, NS. She was a dedicated mother, and animal lover. When diagnosed with lung, kidney, and bone cancer on December 28, 2017, she remained dedicated to her children, and determined to make a recovery. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final months. Crystal is survived by Ken Boutilier, father to her children, Steven & Jamie Boutilier, Paul Flowers, her common-law husband and his sons Christopher and Brian, and her sister, Gail Kernick; and numerous nieces and nephews. Crystal requested to be cremated. Her ashes will be interred at the family plot in The Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The family would especially like to thank Donna Gardner, Crystals lifelong friend, for her excellent work and loving care; the staff of QEII and VG Hospitals for their vigilant, attentive treatment; and the J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, for making the arrangements where visitation will take place on Tuesday June 20, 2017 from 12-2p.m. and a service of remembrance to follow at 2p.m. in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to The Canadian Cancer Society or SPCA.
