Ross touched a lot of lives. He had a passion for his profession, with a deep store of knowledge and experience to share with other veterinarians. He was always helpful and professional, kindly and sympathetic. I always appreciated having a few words with him when we met at various conferences and meetings. His passing leaves a void in the local community, and among friends and family which will be hard to fill. I hope his memories and love will help to bring healing, as his touch did when he was with us still. Condolences to the family from everyone here at Acres Animal Hospital. My thoughts are with you. Ruby (Williams) Hefler posted a condolence
To the family of Dr. Ross Ainslie: Like Ross, I grew up in Mill Village, Hants County, just outside Shubenacadie. In fact, very close to the Ainslie farm. Ross went to school with a number of my Uncles and my parents,Max and Peggy Williams, were good friends of Ross's parents. After Ross moved from the area, he continued to have close ties with the little village and was well known and respected for his continued efforts at the Ainslie farm, with the Pet Cemetery (for many of his clients furry friends),his kennels, and numerous livestock species, including "the Buffalo Farm ",which brought visitors from near and far. Ross took every opportunity to keep in touch with his old friends and neighbors and was always in attendance at our yearly Williams Family Reunion. He even dropped in on our littleVillage School Reunion a few years ago. I am sure his signature must be included in most guestbooks from funerals of Village friends and family members who passed before him. Although I am unable to attend the service today, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you and I will certainly be visiting Ross's resting site in the little Village he loved so much. My condolences to all your family, may your great memories help you through this difficult time. Rest in Peace Ross, you will not be forgotten. Ruby (Williams) Hefler

Arthur A. Irwin posted a condolence
I first met Ross when I was President of the Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers. Many times Lancers were struggling with finances and were unable to pay their vets bills. With twenty eight horses, this ran into a considerable amount of money. Ross was so very kind and he never complained about not getting paid. At one point, many of the horses became too old or were crippled and Ross had a connection with a supplier of Latvian horses in Toronto. He arranged the connection and actually saved the organization. Past President of the Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers Arthur A. Irwin

Dr. Robert Read posted a condolence
I've known Ross as a personal friend ever since he first arrived in Halifax in 1953 and began relaxing socially with a group of about six of us classmates in the Dalhousie U Med School's class of 1956 (Gord Dimock, Stu Love, et al). Have always had cats who've been kept healthy by Ross's various clinics, including still to this day. Admired his successful efforts to merge the Saraguay into the RNSYS about ten years ago, extending bond-owning Saraguay members' memberships for ten years free, then for life at nominal fee. He was a wonderful, gentle, insightful man, and enjoyed a home with a wonderful view overlooking the mouth of the Northwest Arm, just up the hill from the Yacht Squadron. I will miss his presence on this earth.

Dr Ainslie was truly one of a kind. I'm grateful to him still for saving my (now 17-yr-old) pet's life in 2005! He made a housecall, taught me what to do, and checked in a couple of days later. Although I moved away from Halifax, I've thought of him often. Rest in peace, kind sir.

Fond memories of my time spent with Dr Ainslie as a veterinary student in the early 1980's at the Quinpool and Fairview hospitals. Was very kind and caring, and shared many words of wisdom. I especially enjoyed and was honoured to get to accompany Doc on one of his working trips to Cape Breton where he attended to many horses through the day and had fun socializing at the Legion in the evening. Dr. Ansilie took care of our dogs when I was a child. I remember my Father explaining how much knowledge Vets had to do their job, because they didn't just learn about one species. He was part of our neighbourhood. I remember my dad having to carry our dog through the door. When Hugo was there he was treated with kindness and dignity. Years later in Fairview he treated my husband 's family cat, and took the time to explain and hugged them when their Cat was put to sleep. I would like to day thank you Sir for your service.
