Obituary of Harold Bellefountaine

BELLEFOUNTAINE, Harold Michael - 102, Halifax, formerly of Portuguese Cove, husband of the late Lucy (Poirier), passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born November 25, 1905, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Michael and Bertha (Purcell) Bellefountaine. Harold was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas with the navy. Throughout his working years, Harold had worked with Mount St. Vincent College as a cook and baker, and had also worked at Moirs Chocolates and Ben’s Bread. He had assisted in the building of the Nova Scotia Hotel. Harold was an avid bowler and had bowled up until his 100th birthday. He is survived by his grandchildren, Michael (Carrie) Bellefountaine, Denise Bellefountaine, Melissa Doubleday (Daren), and Cindy Publicover (George); his great-grandchildren, Chad, Jennifer, Sandra, Shannon, Matthew, Jacob, Emily, Lauren, and Dylan; great-great-granddaughter, Camryn; his daughter-in-law, June Bellefountaine, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucy; his only son, Ronald “Mickey”, and several brothers and sisters. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of 5 West for all of the care and compassion given to Harold. Resting at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 1, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Herring Cove Road, with Fr. Rob Arsenault as celebrant. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Remembrances in memory of Harold may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
