Obituary of Joseph McGregor

McGREGOR, Joseph Walter "Joe" - 71, Spryfield, passed away following a brief illness on Monday, May 5, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Preshong) McGregor. Throughout Joe's life he was a pipefitter, having been a dedicated member of 46 years to the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 56. Joe will be remembered as being a family man who loved his family dearly. Joe spent much quality time on his 70 acre farm in Aldersville, where he happily and diligently worked the land, always keeping a well maintained garden and clearing for firewood. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife of 54 years, Anna "Genora" F. (Oakley) McGregor; his treasured children, Joseph "Joe" McGregor (his companion Melissa and her daughter Melanie), Kentville; Joanna Harrison (Robert), Lower Sackville; Linda McGregor, Halifax; Nadine Currie (Scott), Spryfield; Sherri McGregor, Spryfield. Joe is also survived by his sister, Dolores Greeley, Halifax, and his brother, Kenneth "Ken" "Unc" McGregor (Freda), Spryfield; grandsons, Gary Joseph Hawes, Joseph Walter Hawes, Michael Harrison (companion Laurie), and Jamie Harrison; great-granddaughter, Amanda Harrison, as well as another great-grandchild on the way; aunts, Linda Sampson, Spryfield; Doris Parker, Toronto; nieces, nephews and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; infant daughter, Denise; brother-in-law, George Greeley. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tennakore and his staff, as well as nurse, Lee, for all the care and compassion given to Joe in his time of need. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield (477-5601). A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 14, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, with Father Rob Arsenault as celebrant. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Family flowers only, in lieu, remembrances may be made to Triage of the Emergency Department, QEII.
