Obituary of Joanne MacKinnon
MACKINNON, Joanne Mauretta – 68, of Halifax passed away July 3, 2008 at QE II Victoria General Site, Halifax. Born in Ferguson’s Cove, Halifax, NS, Joanne was a daughter of the late Harold and Ellen (Dunstan) Bennett. She had been employed at Princess Restaurant and later in the credit office at Simpsons - Sears. Later, she worked as a hairdresser for the seniors at Arborstone Enhanced Care, formerly Pine Haven. Joanne loved her flowers in the backyard, her daily walks with Colin, her exercise classes, the VLT machines at Kokomo’s and her collection of angels. She was a good living woman who was special and well loved. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years and 4 days, Colin; son, Nathan and his close friend, Anna Murray; son, Richard (Vera Lynn Thompson); sisters Janice (John) Jones; and Judy (Wayne) Roloson; grandson, Kyle; and granddaughter, Brenda; all of Halifax, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and her special dog, Kalie. She was predeceased by her sister Sylvia Humphreys; baby sister Shelly-Ann, and her parents. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd, Spryfield (477-5601). The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Interment will be held at St. Philip’s Anglican Cemetery, Purcell’s Cove, NS. Family flowers only, in lieu remembrances may be made in Joanne’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice.
