Obituary of Donald Ryan

Ryan, Donald Martin “Donny”: 72, White’s Lake, NS, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, August 6, 2008. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Hubert and Noreen (Fader) Ryan. Throughout his life, Donny found great joy in entertaining people through music. He was well-known in the music industry for his talent with Country and Western music, often entertaining with his wife Cathy by his side. He thoroughly enjoyed entertaining the Veterans at Camphill Hospital. Although he was devoted to his career, his family was his priority in life. He loved life and his family dearly and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by the Prospect Road Communities, where he will be remembered as a good living and giving man with a wonderful sense of humour. Donny was a charter member of the White’s Lake Lions Club, a life-member of the Royal Canadian Legion, White’s Lake Branch, a very active member of the Prospect Road Citizens on Patrol organization, and was a school crossing guard. Donny will be sadly missed by his loving wife and best friend, Catherine “Cathy” (Tanner), his son, Kelli Bowyer and his wife, Rita, Cole Harbour, NS, his daughter, Angela McCarthy and her husband, Randy, Shad Bay, brothers, Hubert “Nick” Ryan, Fairview, and Arnold “Butch” Ryan, and his wife, Marg, Toronto, ON, and his step-mother, Lucy Ryan-Gammon, Sherbrooke. Affectionately known as Poppie or Papa, he will be remembered and missed by his grandchildren, Jessica and Natasha Bowyer, and Chadrick and Cassidy McCarthy. His is also survived by his special nieces and nephews. Resting at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, NS (477.5601), where visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A tribute to a Legion member will be held on Sunday at 7 PM at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 2 PM from the funeral home chapel with Assisting Minister Cheryl Rafuse as officiant. Interment will take place on Tuesday at 2 PM in Sunrise Park Inter-Faith Cemetery, Hatchet Lake, NS. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate remembrances in memory of Donny be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia.
