Obituary of Tryphena Matchem

MATCHEM (Rose) Tryphena Ann “Triffee” … 89, Halifax, passed away on September 9, 2008, joining her beloved husband Ted in Heaven. Born on July 18, 1919 in Hermitage, N.L., she was a daughter of the late James and Martha Rose. Known lovingly too many as Triffee, to a few as Nana, and only to one as Mom, she was the cornerstone of the family. We were all drawn to her and her kindness. She cared so much for so long for so many, especially her close family. She grew up in Hermitage, N.L., spent her early married life in Gaultois, N.L., and then moved to Halifax with her daughter with whom she and her husband resided for many years. She will be sadly missed and never forgotten by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughter Sheila (Gordon) Cooper, Halifax; granddaughter Elizabeth (Wayne) Hall, and their children Cara and Steven, Halifax; grandson Edward (Michelle) Cooper and their children Jessica and Stuart, St. John’s N.L.; brothers Cyril (Lillian) Rose, Mulgrave; Wallace (Violet) Rose, Halifax; sisters Doris Engram, Halifax; Mary (Ronnie) Hynes, Halifax; sisters in law Phyllis and Jessie; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edward “Ted” Matchem; brothers Eric and Leonard. Arrangements are under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Emmanuel Anglican Church on Friday, September 12, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dianna Brett-Frye officiating. Interment to follow in Emmanuel Cemetery. Donations in Triffee’s memory may be made to the CIBC Run for the Cure, www.cibcrunforthecure.com.
