Obituary of Frank Robertson
ROBERTSON, Elwood "Frank" - 80, Halifax, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, in the presence of family. Born on July 28, 1928, in Red Point, P.E.I., he was a son of the late Fulton and Alice (Bertram) Robertson. Frank grew up in Hunter River, P.E.I., but left his home province to proudly serve his country in the Royal Canadian Navy. While in the Navy he competed in amateur boxing and remained active in amateur sport, coaching minor hockey for many years. Always a sports enthusiast, his true passion was harness racing. He competed as owner, trainer, driver, and breeder. He was also active as a builder, having served as President of the Halifax County Horse Owners Association in the 1970s and was instrumental in bringing winter racing to Sackville Downs. In 1969 Frank founded Atlantic Fundraising Service Ltd. and served as president until his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Alice (Lewis) Sprague-Robertson; daughter, Mary-Lou Robertson; sons, Frank and Edward (Carly) Robertson; stepdaughter, Shelly Sprague; stepsons, Brandon (Lynn) and Chris Sprague; grandchildren, Sierra, Devany, Lauren, Jordan, Jeremy, Matthew, Dylan, Hanna and Mekayla; sister, Verna (Robertson) Kent; sister-in-law, Brenda Robertson. He was predeceased by brother, Will Robertson and his first wife, Florence (Feener) Robertson. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield (477-5601). A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 13, at 2 p.m. in United Memorial Church, 5375 Kaye St., Halifax. Interment to be held at a later date in Prince Edward Island.
