Obituary of Samuel Cowie

COWIE, SAMUEL THOMAS Samuel Thomas Cowie, 82, Halifax passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday December 5, 2008, at the QEll Health Sciences Center. Born in Fearn, Scotland December 3, 1926, he was the son of the late Gordon and Mary [Maude] Cowie. Sam “Scotty” was a Veteran paratrooper in World War 2. He was the President of Cowie Motors Ltd., Robie Street. He was a past director of Oakfield Golf and Country Club and past Director of the SPCA. Sam (Scotty) loved his golf and soccer, having in his earlier years played on the Oland’s soccer team. With his wife, Muriel, he loved the winter months in Barefoot Bay, Florida, having a daily round of golf and a visit to his prized vegetable garden. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Muriel Sampson Cowie; son Kenneth [Irene] Sampson; grandson Shawn[Shelley]; granddaughter Laura [David] Tuepah and great-grandsons Alexander and Zachary all of Kingston, Ontario; sister-in-law Betty Cowie [late Willie] Scotland; nephew Gordon [Elaine] Cowie and their two sons Scott and Craig in Ireland; nieces Allison [Dougie] Robb and their son Greig; Heather MacGregor Barron and her sons Lee and Gary all of Scotland; Michelle [Steve] Gibbons, daughter Alyssa and son Samuel; Christina LaRiviere, daughter Isabella and son Tyler; Calene Alexander and nephew Stewart [Sharon] Hogg and daughter Jennifer all from the greater Halifax area.; also survived by Calene Hogg; sister-in-law Jacquelyn LaRiviere and father-in-law Donald Loye. Sam was predeceased by his brothers Willie and Wee Gordon in Scotland. He leaves to mourn many dear friends in Halifax, Scotland and Barefoot Bay, Florida, USA. A Eucharistic Celebration of Sam’s life will be held on December 10, at 11am in Saint Augustine’s Anglican Church, 290 Purcell’s Cove Road, with Father John O. Scott presiding. The committal will follow in the church columbarium. A reception will be held in the church hall following the service to which all are most welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Augustine’s Anglican Church, 290 Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax B3P 1C3. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.
